Spring Festival is the most solemn and distinctive traditional festival among Chinese people. Generally, it refers to New Year's Eve and the first day of the first month of the year, also called the lunar year, commonly known as the "New Year". From the Laba or Xiaonian Festival to the Yuanxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival) Festival, it is called the "New Year". Generally lasting for 10-30 days, the customs vary from place to place.

The Spring Festival symbolizes reunion, so during the Chinese New Year, most factories in China are closed for holidays.

Each lunar year in China corresponds to one zodiac sign, totaling 12. Each zodiac sign is also represented by a specific animal. They are: mice, cows, tigers, rabbits, Loong(dragons), snakes, horses, sheep, monkeys, chickens, dogs, and pigs. There is a cycle of twelve years. 2024 is the year of the the Year of the Loong, the dragon zodiac. All babies born in the the Year of the Loong are called Loong babies.
